It seems like just the other day that it was the first of the new year and here it is April already!
At the beginning of the year I got SO serious about how to get this last twenty pounds off. That was three months ago already and I am still sort of running in place! Giving up sugar and most carbs is just sort of part of me now. Health wise I know that is the best thing for me or anyone really. Weight wise I came to a plateau that I just can't get past. I've tried giving up dairy, wheat, wine, beer, and one week kept my calories to under 1100 everyday and still can't get past this plateau. It is pretty frustrating and honestly I think I've obsessed about it enough. Sometimes when you obsess about something too much I think you just get more stuck! For the month of April I've decided to just eat healthy with the "normal" keeping of carbs and sugars to our standard LOW and I'm going to try to get in some exercise. Maybe I just need to tighten everything up, you know?
My dad came down a couple weekends ago and brought me my mom's old exercise bike. It's sitting here now waiting for me to start using it! We have a vacation coming up in June. My second son is graduating from college and my youngest son is graduating from High School and we are taking the auto train to Florida, going on a four day cruise and then hitting Disney for a day and Harry Potter World for a day before before heading home. I'd sure like to tighten everything up before that trip, and have decided that will be my new goal! The no obsessing part will be hard for me, since sometimes I can't help myself, but I'm going to try it for April and see how I do. Eat healthy, exercise, move more in general and get to the million house and garden projects I have set up for myself over the winter and see how the month goes.
I noticed the blogs have gotten kind of quiet, maybe we are all getting a little frustrated? I do hope all of you are doing well and continue to blog about your successes, failures and frustrations and hopes on this never ending journey we are all on!
Hi Beth, :)
ReplyDeleteI always read your blog but rarely comment. I do think that exercise is huge when you are on a plateau besides just plain making us all healthier.
I also wonder, are you maybe at an ideal weight for you? It's hard to make our bodies respond when our weight is nearly where it needs to be.
Your upcoming vacay sounds fabulous! Have a wonderful time!
Linda in Western NC :)
Thank you Linda! It was nice to hear from you! I've been hoping I wouldn't have to resort to exercising but I fear I have no choice, lol! I can still grab a handful of belly, so I know I could lose more. I better get pedaling!
DeleteWell Disney and harry potter sounds like it will be fun. Maybe like you said to stop obsessing just a bit about the weight and eat healthy and you will do it. Some form of exercise every day is good also. I have total faith in YOU that you will find your niche. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your support along the way Rosalie. I hope I find some kind of niche soon!
DeleteBeth, I have had those times before too! Like now:) I called it a moratorium on my obsession! If you have done all of the things above and the scale is stuck, I would put that scale away for the month of April and use a measuring tape instead. Measure your waist, gut and butt and go with those in terms of success.
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds EXACTLY like something that I would love to do. I love Disney and I love Harry Potter!!!
You have a goal, now get after it! Ride that bike to Florida and back:)
I might just take your advice and start measuring myself. Don't think I can bring myself to put the scale away - I guess I'm still a little obsessed. Don't know about riding the bike to Florida but I did have a fleeting thought today of "I wonder if hiking the Appalachian trail would be a good way to lose weight". Then I remembered I was 52, not in shape, and had a million obligations to home and family and can't just go hike a trail for a few weeks!. See how bad I want this belly to be gone!!
DeleteI like Kay's idea of riding the bike to Florida and back. That would be a kind of neat way to measure your exercising. Good luck with quitting the obsessing. ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe instead I'll ride across the country and come see you and Kay! LOL! Well, I'll dream about doing just that while sit upon my exercise bike.
DeleteLOL! Wouldn't that be neat! ;) I laughed about your comment on hiking the Appalachians. lol
DeleteI know how frustrated you are!! I was there in January and that's when I finally changed things around. The exercise has been huge for me - I never really liked it because I didn't really know what to do but now I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I started eating clean, Heather (the gal who is leading our group) said that our diet was the biggest factor in our weight loss but by building up our muscle, we would be increasing our metabolism AND as the weight came off we'd have beautiful muscles appearing. I know when I exercise I am more hungry so the 5-6 meals a day has been key for me because I am never hungry when I make sure to eat a small meal or a snack every 2 1/2 -3 hours.
Our family loves, loves, loves Disneyworld. I am so jealous :) We are going on the Disney Cruise next May - can't wait. You'll have to tell us all about it when you get back.
I wrote this on your blog, but how did you do the "hate to love" exercise turnaround? Do you think I should try hypnosis? LOL! I'm not sure what else would make me love it, but I'd surely be happy if I did!
ReplyDeleteWe did a Disney Cruise when we got married (almost 25 years ago!)and thought it was Fabulous!
Hi Beth, sorry to be MIA. Long story ... short end is I've has some serious anxiety/insomnia to deal with. Not sure if too low carb contributed to it but now I have to fix it. Anxiety is caused by not enough serotonin (like depression) so this long Canadian winter hasn't helped either (there were snow flurries this am for heaven sake). Carbs are necessary for serotonin production and so not eating enough coupled with other factors may have got me here. It's been a long haul back. My days have gotten better but my sleep is still messed up. I've increased carbs per Paul Jaminet (http://perfecthealthdiet.com/) and haven't gained weight. I had some discussion with him about my symptoms and what he said about women and carbs sounded logical (maybe Jorge wasn't crazy with his carb cycling for women). I'm not going to focus on losing any more until I feel much more optimal. Disneyworld ... we really should take our kids but I'm not looking forward to it (does that make me weird??). We may go to Long Boat Key and drive to Orlando just for two days. I just can't imagine a week at the parks.
ReplyDeleteTrina! It's so good to hear from you again. I miss your blog and your comments! I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling good! Glad your days are getting better but hope your sleep improves. It is so lousy when we don't get enough sleep.
DeleteDisneyworld is fun! I think you'll be surprised if you decide to go!
Hi Beth.Catching up with everyone. I think you are being wise to stop obsessing over why your weight and why it is not moving. It may be just what you need to get it going again. The watched pot never boils right? I agree that some of us are frustrated right now. I know I am. I can't really walk that well, can't work out the way I want to or should and I gain if I even eat or drink too much of anything I shouldn't. But I don't want to go backwards, so I just keep trying to go forwards and pick myself up if I slip. Hang in there! XO
ReplyDeleteBeth, I was on Heather's website http://www.hf-bombshellfitness.com/. She is the gal that has the program Kim is following. If you go to the site and click on services, you will see that she is starting an online program stating April 15. I emailed her but haven't heard back yet. I would love it just to get me back in the workout mode since for the last three months I have been nursing this injury. I may not be able to do all the exercises but I think the group guidance would be good for me. I would still follow he BFC eating and avoiding fruits and such, but the clean eating plan is very similar to the BFC, and it might be a good way to get me motivated and losing again. Let me know if you decide to check it out.

ReplyDeleteHi Pattie, Thanks for checking on me. I had three sons graduate from different schools the past month, and then I found out I got Lyme disease from a stupid deer tick and I've been dealing with that. Also we are leaving on our vacation to Florida on Tuesday so in light of all that I decided to take a little break form the blog. Honestly I haven't lost any more weight and have been seriously considering if I might want to change up with an even healthier lifestyle approach. I still look at the blogs and when I get things figured out in a few more weeks I will probably be back. I hope things are going good for you!
ReplyDeleteBeth, where are you? I miss you:) I just read that you got Lyme disease, I'm sorry! I hope you had a wonderful trip and will be back soon. We are all in about the same place my friend!
