So in other news I got some bad news about my dog this week. We have two dogs, Buddy & Marley. Marley is three years old and is a yellow lab/retriever mix. Buddy is an Australian shepherd/beagle mix. Buddy will be eleven this March. Anyway, in the last three weeks Buddy has developed a cough that sounds like kennel cough. I took him into the vet this week and they told me he has a heart murmur. The vet wants me to take him to a canine cardiologist that is about 45 minutes away. She told me their workup would be about $450.00 to diagnose his heart condition and find the right meds for him. Geesh!! I love my dogs but I have two kids in college and that is a lot of money! So after much thought (and kids making me feel guilty) I decide to do it. I call the cardiologist yesterday and they say it's not $450 it's $600! Well that is just too much for only a diagnosis. I started looking around for other vets in my area that might be able to figure out my dogs problems without him going to a cardiologist and I finally found one that sounded hopeful. This vet told me she could do all the diagnostic tests the cardiologist would do except for a heart sonogram. She sounded super nice and talked with me on the phone herself for about twenty minutes. She even said she could see him the next morning, which is this morning. I hope she gives me some better news and I'm able to give Buddy another couple years with medication. I love dogs, and have always had them, but I do hate this part. The part when they get older and such hard decisions are needed. Wish me luck!

How awesome that your pants are fitting better and you had to buy some new ones. That is PROGRESS!!! So sorry to hear about Buddy's health problems, I almost choked on my coffee when you said it would cost $600 to take him to the cardiologist. I hope things work out with the vet you found. Animals are wonderful and it's hard when they get old and sick.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome about your pants and tops! See, it isn't totally about the scale! Did you take measurements when you first started? I bet you have a big difference. It may take you 6 more months to lose the last 20 lbs, but won't it be worth it 6 months from now?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your Buddy. That is why I don't have a dog. I know I would love it so much and I just don't want one more thing to love that much and costs me lots of money! Actually our Kitty is enough:) I'm sure the decision is a tough one, so I hope it all works out for the best.
2 kids in college!!! Ugh!!! My friend has twin girls at WSU to the tune of 50,000. They own a furniture store so they have money, but not a spare 50,000 to send off every year! Wow!!! I guess I am glad that my kids are older now! Multi college son is not showing any desire to go back to school!
Sorry to hear about your dog. I have had to take my dog to a cardiologist too and it was so expensive. We brought him home from the British Virgin Islands, and it turned out he had heart worm. He is okay now, but man those vet bills add up. My other dog Roscoe just had to have $500 vet work up because he has bladder crystals. On a happier note, good news about the jeans!
ReplyDeleteHi Beth, you are doing so ood so don't stop now and before you know it you will be in those 12's and 10's. Trust me on that.
ReplyDeleteI really do understand on the dog thing. You know I have 2 and love them like they are some of my children. I can't imagine being without them, but I know they don't live as long as us.
I hope you get good news. Have a great weekend :-)
Great job!!! Wahoo on the new jeans!
ReplyDeleteI am sad to hear about your doggie. I have an old kitty, and not looking forward to the fateful day. It's gotta come sometime, and she's already 14 or so...
Great job Beth on the new jeans. I am so sorry to hear about your dog buddy. I know how that feels. I had a issue with our dog a year ago and it cost me over $1000 just to find out what was wrong with him. It is hard to make the right decision when it comes to our pets, just have to do what is right for them. I wish you the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteyea! Awesome job on the new sizes. Doesn't feel great when clothes get too big! I was sorry to hear about your dog. Any news yet? Your doing great. Thanks for commenting on my blog too.
