Sunday March 18th

Hello everyone!  I think I'm going to have to change my blog picture soon because I'm beginning to think winter is over here in Maryland.  I've never seen weather this warm in March before, very strange indeed.

Last night I was home with just two of my boys and they wanted to go get some Chinese for dinner.  Now I haven't had Chinese food (which I love) since I started the BFC not just because of the white rice they serve with their meals, but also I'm pretty sure there is always some kind of sugar in the sauces they make.  Anyway, the boys really wanted to go, so I said OK I'm sure I can find something on the menu that I can eat.   Turns out there really isn't too much that looks BFC friendly.  I ended up with just the Hunan Beef & Vegetables which I ate with NO rice.  I brought Truvia for my tea, so I think I did OK.  Anyway I used to go to this place a lot and when the older waitress came to the table she commented on how she hadn't seen me for awhile.  I agreed that it had been awhile and then she said, "Yeah you lost weight".  This may sound silly, but that made me feel so good.  This little Chinese lady noticed that I had lost weight, so maybe I do look different now. Awesome!

One other thing I wanted to mention has to do with probiotics.   Now like most of you I take these every day.  Last week I noticed I was running low and while I was at the drugstore I thought I'd pick up some more.  I like to get the Ultimate Flora by Renew Life brand. This time the store didn't have them so I just picked up a different brand because I figured they were all basically the same as long as they had enough different strains, and enough active cells. So I got something called Probaclac Healthy Flora.  Well without giving out too much information over the next two days I started having a lot of problems with bloat, gas(sorry) and a little cramping.  At first I thought it was too much of the Joseph's sugar free syrup that is made with Maltitol. I've been having a TBS of that everyday in my one minute Flaxseed muffin.  So, next morning I made eggs and sausage for breakfast instead thinking that would clear up the problem. I took my vitamins and Probiotic that morning like usual.  That day things got even worse and I realized it couldn't be the Joseph's and it finally dawned on me that I had switched Probiotics.  That day I went out and got my usual stuff and switched back.  Now I'm pretty much back to normal and feeling much better.   I just wondered if anyone else has ever had a bad reaction to any brands they are taking.  From now on I'm going to only use the brands I have used in the past.

            Good Probiotic

                         Bad Probiotic   (for me anyway)

Today I'm off to West Virginia for the day.  My parents live there and I want to go check up on them.  I hope you all have a great rest of the weekend!

  1. Beth, I am one who hasn't started probiotics. Keep meaning to. Good advice though, and I am going to try your brand. Great job on the Chinese food. See that's the difference between you and me, and maybe why I haven't lost as much as I've wanted too. I would have the rice and count it in my carbs. I don't do that at home, but when I'm out I figure I can do that. Probably should stop and then I would have better results. I admire that you stuck to the plan! Hugs from me to you!

  2. I have only taken one probiotic type so far...I think I need to do some more research and find a better one.
I am in NC and the yellow pine pollen started the other day...I love spring, but could totally do without the yellow stuff...UGH!

  3. Yeah great job at the restaurant.
I take 2 Natural Factors - acidopholus and bifidus every morning and have since the beginning. I have never switched cause that is what the vitamin girl told me was a good one.
    Have a great day :-)

  4. I don't take a probiotic yet either. I get gas from everything! I know that is too much TMI, but thank God I have a husband who just ignores me:) Well he doesn't ignore me, but he leaves the room:) It is funny how sometimes it takes awhile to realize what the problem may be.
That is WONDERFUL that the little gal realized that you had lost weight, you are just used to seeing you now, compare pictures! You will see a big difference.
I know that you feel like it will be a slippery slope if you would have eaten the white rice, but you could count it as your carb. If you can just parcel out a little bit on your plate and put the rest out of your reach. I'm not saying do that every day, but for special times. Sweets are still my slippery slope so I stay far away from them, unless of course I make them with my sugar.
I wish it were Spring here. We have had dreary weather for about 9 days in a row:(
I remember you saying that you were looking for a place to retire, look at Alabama! Low property taxes too I guess. They only paid 219,000 for their house. There is NOTHING like that for that price here. As happy as I am for her, my house certainly doesn't look like that! The inside is even more amazing:)
Take care of yourself Beth! Blessings:)

  5. I would guess that the probiotics bothered you because of the prebiotic fibers; I noticed it on the label. This is the probiotics I take:

This is the reason I decided on this brand...

    Acid and Bile Resistant Strains

Many common probiotic blends can’t survive the acidic environment of the stomach. That’s why some companies use “enteric coatings” or special treatments to keep them inside a waxy ball until after they’ve passed the stomach. Perhaps you’ve heard that some probiotics also need to be refrigerated in order to remain “live.” In both cases, the main issue is that the strains they’ve chosen are not particularly hardy strains to begin with. Prima Flora uses acid- and bile-resistant strains that survive through stomach acid and need not be refrigerated (although you CAN store them in a refrigerator). These strains have been isolated over years of research to resist digestion and more effectively repopulate intestinal flora.

Try it today and if you aren't 100% satisfied with the results take advantage of our 30-day money back guarantee.

  6. I know mine bother me if I eat them on an empty stomach, but not if I eat them with food. Same as with my vitamins.

Chinese food is hard. These days I usually eat the bul bo gie (korean barbecue) a little rice, and a little taste of whatever the boys are eating, and deal with the bloat for a few days. We don't eat it very often. And I'm on 'maintenance.' Before I would probably skip the rice and choose beef and broccoli. I tried ordering it no sugar before, and it was horrible - way too salty. It's just not a BFC friendly thing, but I think you gotta do it every now and again!

  7. Hi Beth!!!
That is awesome when people notice your weight loss. I have run into some people I havent seen in over a year and that is usually the first thing they comment on and it always makes me feel great. On a funny side note, my oldest dtr plays softball and one of the moms (Carrie) who I just love to bits, saw me for the first time a few weeks ago and I think she carried on & on about how good I look since I have lost weight. It was great to hear it but part of me had a hard time taking such an extremem compliment. Im not kidding when I say this, I think she carried on for about 10mins! So keep up the good work girl! Your hard work has not gone un noticed.
As far as the probiotics go, I havent had any problems with mine and I am not brand specific in that area. I use the cheapest one I can find. I hate spending $20 on bacteria. lol.
Hope all is well with you!
    Hugs!!
