It's working

Happy Friday Everyone!

As you know from my last post I was up in weight from not monitoring my foods better the last two months. This week I decided to be much more involved.    Here is what I did:

1)  No snacking  - only eat three times a day and if hungry have hot tea with stevia - no cream!
2)  No healthy backed goods or protein bites this week - This was huge because I've been having so many of them lately.
3.) Track food on My fitness Pal - OK, I'm still not good at doing this everynight, but I tracked a little
4.)  Eggs for breakfast instead of baked goods or pancakes.
5.)  No eating after dinner
6.) No alcohol

I did all those things and have to say I definitely felt hungry in between meals.  I drank a lot of hot tea!  One or two times I did have a cup of decaff in the afternoons with cream just to be a little fuller until dinner.  I kept telling myself that it was good to feel hungry for the next upcoming meal.  I did feel hungry a little in the evenings before bed.  I think I was so used to popping an almond flour muffin, or protein bite everytime I felt a bit hungry that it is going to take my body a little time to get used to not having them in between meals.  I'll save them for the upcoming holidays and they will feel much more like a treat.

The good and suprising news is that I am back down by three pounds as of this morning.  Fridays are my new weigh in day.   I have another three to go before I am back down to my lowest weight so far of 159lbs. I still do want to get down to my original goal of 150 though and think I have to just do more of the above to get there.  There is a chance my body just doesn't want to get that low again now that I'm in my fifties.  We'll see.

My youngest boy has been a high school counselor at the local "Outdoor School" this week.  All sixth graders in our county go for a week to this overnight camp and learn about the environment, and owls and stuff like that.  As a senior in High School you can volunteer to be a counselor if you're in good standing with your school.  Kyle volunteered.   I'm picking him up this afternoon and taking him to Chipotle (I'll get the salad).  He says he is exhausted and starving!   It's been a cold week here to be in outdoor school -down in the thirties at night and only going up in the forties during the day.  We were supposed to get snow on Wednesday but it missed us and went north to Pennsylvania.  I have a feeling Pattie got some.   This week coming up is supposed to be much nicer and going back up to the sixties a few days.   Maybe I'll walk this week.  I will continue doing what I did this week foodwise and let you know how it goes.
Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Great Job Beth! Doesn't it feel good to do the right things and get results?

  2. Wow Beth! Great job this week. If you're hungry you need to eat more fat (this is what Dr. Davis tells people all the time). Have more coconut oil/olive oil with meals and eat the fat that comes with your meat (including the chicken skin). I find more fat keeps me from being hungry. I read an interesting piece the other day about our pancreas and insulin and the author (who is a dr/scientist) said our body has no mechanism to store dietary fat as body fat. You and Dawn have inspired me and I'm going to set some firm plans for myself next week. I need to break off this plateau! I think I've gotten slack with snacks too and I clearly need to rein it in :)

    1. I really think the "no snacks" is a big part of what is working right now. I was snacking too much, even though they were healthy snacks.

  3. Hi Beth see what you can accomplish when you really put your heart into it? Great job Girl! I think you should not let yourself get so hungry in between meals. I feel if you are hungry to have a healthy snack like maybe celery with peanut butter or something. Sorry Trina but I disagree about the chicken skin. That adds about 100 extra calories for nothing.
You are doing so good and will reach your goal in no time. That last 8 lbs or so came off VERY slowly for me.

    1. It adds valuable fat. Chicken by it's nature is not very fatty and that's why it is less satiating than say a nice steak. If I eat a skinless chicken breast I'm starving later. I don't worry about calories either (but that's me).

    2. Thank you Rosalie! I actually like getting a little hungry between meals because then I REALLY want my next meal. But celery with peanut butter does sound like a good fix on really bad days.

Trina, it's all so so confusing sometimes isn't it? I don't look at calories either because I did lowcarb before and that's what I had read then, and now even Jorge says calories don't matter - just carbs and sugars. On the other hand, cutting down on the snacks DID help. So was it too many calories, or just spreading the calories out too much (like all day instead of three sittings) or something else entirely? Confusing!

    3. I have no doubt if you eat more fat you feel less hungry. I also think there is something to not eating throughout the day (snacking). You are never allowing your body to tap into stored fat that way. I think there is an energy balance at the end of the day - that's why athletic people can eat more because they burn more. If you're sedentary you need to account for that in what you eat (but most people don't). Although, if you really looked at what calories you burn during some mild exercise it's not very much. I think building muscle would help a lot - I need to start doing some strength training. We lose muscle as we age and muscle burns more calories so we need to build it :)

    4. I think you're right about building muscle, I should get back into doing the kettle bells

  4. I just know that in a couple of weeks you are going to be at your all time low! I am excited for you:) You and Dawn are sure on a roll!
That is cool that your son had that opportunity to be a part of those kids lives. It is a memory that he will always have.
We got snow this morning. I am so not ready for winter! I guess here it comes so I need to get over myself:)
Have a great weekend and carry on with the good choices!

  5. All of this "breaking through" talk is inspiring me to get on on with it too! Great job Beth, eliminating snacks is hard! Especially my night time one..
