November 2 - BFC week 29

I am back down to 168lbs today and if I know my body on the BFC, I'll probably be at this weight for the next month!  Doesn't bother me too much, because I'm almost down 30 pounds since I started, my sizes are smaller, I feel good (except for this darn cold I'm trying to get rid of), and I hope I will be at my goal weight of 150lbs by my one year anniversary next April.

So speaking of the months of the year,  how can it already be November!  Wasn't it just summer?   Now comes the incredibly fast paced days that occur from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas.  I feel like I'm already behind, lol!  I talked to my older brother, Steve and his family and also my parents this week and have asked them all  to come to my house for Thanksgiving.  No one in my family ever seems to organize anything and I always end up having the family get-togethers.  One year I decided to forget it, that I wasn't going to do all the work that year, and then no one else did either.  We ended up just having our own Thanksgiving dinner.  When you have your own Thanksgiving dinner with no other people, it turns into just a regular dinner at your house where you just happen to be having turkey.  At least that's how it is over here.  It really is much more fun to have people over, to talk, to pour some wine, and to laugh, even if you have to do a lot of work to make it happen.  I now have to come up with some great menu that will keep everyone happy.  Remember me talking about my sister in law that was at the beach with us?  The one that is really overweight that said anything without sugar tastes disgusting?!   Well, she will be here too.  I think I will make some BFC dishes and some old "regular" dishes and do the same with desert, one BFC and one or two "regular".   So I was wondering what all the rest of you are thinking of having?  I know Dawn is doing the Costco  dinner (smart!) but what about everyone else?  Some of you were on the BFC last Thanksgiving and I'm hoping you'll share what worked and what didn't.  I love getting ideas, recipes and inspiration from all of you.  When I get my menu planned I'll post it here also.

Off the subject of Thanksgiving, I was thinking about our recent snow (which is all gone now thank goodness).  Everyone was talking about how early it was for snow in their area and stuff.  I know from your posts where some of you live but I was wondering what state everyone lives in.  It might have been said before but I might have not been blogging then.  If you don't mind, could you share what state you live in and what kind of winters you get?   I live in Westminster, Maryland and we get all four seasons.  Snow doesn't usually start until some time in December and doesn't usually get heavy until Jan, Feb., and sometimes March.  It's interesting to hear how everyone else lives, don't you think?   Thanks for listening and hope you all have a great day!

  1. Hi Beth from Blue Bell, PA. It's about 20 miles or so outside of Philadelphia in the burbs! That's was a good question as I forget what state everyone is in, except for Amber and Rosalie, because they live in the state that I want to live in! I'm in love with Northern California. I am done with snow, so I would love their 3 seasons. I hear you about Thanksgiving. I always have Christmas for about 25 and it's a big production, days of cooking and setting up tables. Usually someone else steps up and offers to host Thanksgiving, but not this year. It's alot to do two big dinners only 4 weeks apart, but I guess I will. Part of the family on my husbands side is going to the beach for the weekend. My family doesn't want to go.It's more cozy here. The shore can be drab and grey in the winter. So I guess I'll be having it. I have to admit last year, I just ate regular stuff for the day and enjoyed myself. Probably why I'm not nearly as good in the weight loss department as all of you! Have a great rest of the week!

  2. Simpsonville, Kentucky, which is practically a suburb of Louisville, just in another county. We get all four seasons too and our winters sound like what you get Beth.
Gotta Run! Off to my yoga class.

  3. I live in Spokane WA. We have 4 seasons and I am with Pattie, 3 would be great! No snow! Our summer didn't start until mid July last year, but it seems that it lasted longer into the Fall. Our trees are still full of leaves and I am NOT ready for snow. We had record snowfall 2 years ago, which I hope will not be repeated! We live on a corner lot so we have a TON of sidewalk to shovel or snowblow. My husband is a perfectionist and I swear he has to make sure the sidewalk is legal width clear of snow. Our driveway is 3 cars wide and 3 cars deep, so the snow really piles up on the sides. I don't even want to think about it! It has been beautiful the last few days. Wonderful sunshine and beautiful colors.
Thanksgiving isn't a huge Holiday at our house. Now that I have a daughter in law that is from a family of 9 kids, she usually hosts it at her house. I will only have 2 of 4 kids home:( I don't even want to think about that either!
    Great idea Beth:)
You are doing great with your weight and I know you will be at your goal by April. How tall are you?
I actually added spinach to my stuffing the last time I made it for dinner. You certainly can't taste it in there and I felt it made it healthier? I am adding spinach to my mashed potatoes still too. I am growing up:)

  4. I live in Provo, Utah...grew up near the ocean. So I'm a CA girl at heart. I love our warm summers here, but 7-8 mo. winters are too long for me. It didn't even start warming up until mid June, and today it hit a high of 40!
Congrats on your weight loss-I haven't weighed 168 in over 5 yrs., so I when I reach that I'll feel accomplished...for a day or so!
I haven't thought too much about Thanksgiving. It will just be my husband & I that day...maybe a turkey breast, mashed cauliflower(husband likes it),and a great salad of some sort. And also for him: jello salad & a little stuffing. I'm going to make some sort of BFC friendly pumpkin dessert and of course a can of reddi whip-I always have one in my fridge, and it's saved me a few times. Since it's just us-I don't have to worry about making everyone's favorites.

  6. First of all congrats on being 168 I know it's been a long road to get there!!! I am so happy for you :) :) :)

Second it's a small world I also live in Spokane (I don't think I knew Kay did too) We are on the eastern side of the state, near the Idaho boarder. What a great idea to ask where everyone is from I am enjoying everyones response.

Last year we were taking care of a farm so we hosted Thanksgiving, I think I will appreciate every Thanksgiving now that I know how much work it is. I am thinking of bringing mashed cauliflower as a mashed potato alternative, and some kind of bfc friendly dessert. One thing we had last year that was really simple but good was a spinach salad with pears, walnuts, and blue cheese.

  7. Looks like I'm the only Southerner here...although as far south as it is, Florida doesn't feel like the South; it feels like Hades most days! We have 2 seasons: Summer, and Hell. Just kidding. I live in Bradenton, which is sandwiched between Tampa and Sarasota. We are 15 minutes from the beach, and a few steps from the Manatee River, which at our street is still ssalt water from Tampa Bay (on the Gulf of Mexico). I have never seen real snow! It snowed here the "winter" of 1989, but it melted before it hit the ground.

I love hearing where everyone is from. How fun!!

Since I'm not on the BFC, I will have all the traditional foods, but in small portions. My husband's grandmother is 85 and still does both Thanksgiving and Christmas for ALL FORTY-FIVE of us!! To be honest, I'd like to do a meal of our own, but it won't happen while she's still here...and I love her, so I go with a smile on my face. :)

  8. You'll never believe it, but I live about 30 minutes from Spokane, on the Idaho border between Idaho and Washington. So I have the same weather as Kay and Katie! I am not looking forward to getting around in the snow, but my 4th grader is planning on making an igloo this winter, so I'm hoping his enthusiasm for that carries through!

  9. Hi Beth. I live in Newport Beach, Calif. (about 45 mins away from Rosalie). Since I was pretty much born and raised here, I haven't seen many seasons. We did live in Iowa when I was 2 and my dad taught at the University, but I don't remember that much. Also, my husband was born and raised in Calgary Canada, but I refuse to visit in the winter :) This So. Calif girl is a whimp. LOL! I hope you don't mind a little Thanksgiving suggestion, but how about having a potluck. Everyone brings something they like and it's less pressure on the cook. My mom always gets stuck doing Thanksgiving and it's a lot of work so the potluck thing helps ease some of the workload and everyone gets something they love. Just a suggestion. Congrats on such great weight loss success!

  10. Hi Beth, I live in the beautiful but rainy state of Oregon. I have lived here all my life but 2yrs of it I lived in Sacramento and miss ever so much. We have all the seasons but most of them are rain and more rain. We do not get much snow even though I live about a hour from the mountains. I wish we all live closer so we could have a get together. Since my parents passed away my brother and sister really don't get together much for the holidays. It does make me a little sad sometimes but we do get together for family night every couple of months. So Thanksgiving is celebrated with my 2 daughters and hubby and this year my new little grandbaby.

  11. Hi Beth
I'm not too far from you here in Baltimore.
Have you been to the Shop Rite in Timonium yet? I have been3 times since they opened ,,,,whenever I go to Cockeysville or Towson to the Dr. They have a special promotion in Nov. and Dec. every year. If you buy $300.00 or more during a certain time period. You can get a free turkey, turkey breast, ham,,,, other choices I don't remember them all. This is the first time I could shop that often to reach that amount.... I have to pick it up by the 24th. I bought all the Clemmy o's that were in the freezer case. My son and I have one each night for a snack, They are so good especially the chocolate covering.
