Carb serving (no more than 2 per meal)
5 grams - 20 grams = 1 serving
20 grams - 40 grams = 2 servings
Eat no more than 40 grams carbs and 5 grams sugar per meal!

Sunday November 6

Thank you all for sharing where you are from!  I really enjoyed seeing how spread out we are across the country!  A nice little concentration up in the North West.  I've never been that far across the country and find it so interesting to hear about what its like there and everywhere else!

So it sounds like this week everyone is getting a bit down.  I think it might have something to do with the upcoming holidays.  It's that time of the year where we eat, drink and be merry and here we all are on a "no sugar - low carb" diet (or some variation)!  It sort of puts a damper on the festivities and the joy of eating to our hearts content!   My husband just told me that he would like to drop another five pounds before Thanksgiving so that he could put it back on over the holiday!   No!  We shouldn't be thinking that way!  We should be thinking about what delicious dishes we can serve and eat that will enable us to enjoy the holidays and not feel deprived!  I've been working on my menu keeping in mind that while my husband and I are doing the BFC plan no one else coming will want to be "restricted".  My menu is still a work in progress but so far I've come up with this:

Turkey with fresh herb butter basted under its skin
Traditional bread stuffing (that I will try to stay away from,but I have to have or my father probably wouldn't come, lol!)
Spinach salad
Mashed potatoes and gray (for guests)
Corn pudding (my mom's recipe - for guests)
Roasted brussel sprouts(my new favorite veggie - they taste so good roasted with bit of parm cheese & olive oil!)
Green beans w/ almonds or the cheesy baked cauliflower that Pattie had on her blog way back when.

Desert:
Traditional Pumpkin Pie
Traditional Apple Pie
BFC Pumpkin pie with an almond crust
Real Whipped Cream sweetened with stevia for all!

See, this will give me and my husband a plate of herb roasted turkey, brussel sprouts, green beans (or cauliflower), & spinach salad!  Plus a nice piece of bfc friendly pie and whipped cream for desert!  See no feeling deprived over here!

Now Christmas will be another matter!  To quote Scarlett, "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow"

  1. I love that quote from Scarlett. I don't know how I'm going to handle the holidays. I think I would like a little stuffing, so the dilemma will be to make a whole wheat version, or just have a bit of the regular. You know I'm a bit weak with those carbs. I agree that we have to approach our way of eating, as the way we are eating for life. I love the sound of that pumpkin pie though. I was thinking I could whisk together some packed pumpkin with some redi whip, alittle truvia and some cinnamon and make a mousse. That sounds good doesn't it?

  2. You really can't worry about things that are not here yet. We have decided to eat this way and that is just the way it is forever! That is my thinking.
    I don't let people bully me into eating anything I shouldn't. But in these times where there is a ton of food - I just take maybe 2 things and have 2 bites and then eat the rest healthy.
    You can do it!!

    Your menu looks great and I am sure they will love it.

    Gee whiz, I missed the post about where people are from. I am gonna have to search your archives to read it. See waht happens when you dont get online for a week?! I am from Erie, PA.

    My WW leader was ralking about the upcoming holidays as the "Bermuda Triangle". she made a big triangle on her poster chart & wrote Christmas, Thanksgiving & Halloween. With Halloween now passed, I suppose we could add in New years. She asked us what happens in the Bermuda Triangle? Planes crash & burn! She told us to decide what we want in the next 8 weeks when the holidays will be upon us. Do we want to lose weight? Are we ok with gaining a little and if so how much? I think that it is a good idea to plan ahead and I think your menu looks great! Like Rosalie says, have a couple of bites of things that you enjoy so you dont feel deprived. I would most def have to have a little stuffing & mashed potatoes.

  4. I think that menu sounds awesome! I am planning on making a few BFC friendly dishes to round out the 'regular' meal, just like I do every day. So nothing out of the ordinary! That has worked so far, I gotta admit, so no need to change anything! I am feeling better and more optimistic today, so all is right and good. Thanks for blogging regularly to keep us all connected.   7. Beth you menu so far looks yummy and doing the BFC during the holidays is not that hard. I made it through every holiday last year not cheating once. This year I cant say that but I know now when to stop.

  9. Your thanksgiving menu sounds awesome. That's exactly how I cook for my family now a main dish and side for me, then addition sides for them. Sounds like you're doing great with your food. Thanks for listing me in your blog list too.
