Thursday Feb. 2, 2012 - Results

Just a quick post to let you know the results of my "Take away snacks, Add exercise Week".  On my official Wednesday Weigh-In the scale said.......166lbs.  I'm down two pounds - yeah!  It felt so good to see the scale move a little bit downward because it sure has been awhile!   I'm going to keep on going this next week with the same 'no snacks - add exercise' that I started and see if I can't nudge the scale down another pound.  I HAVE been a little hungry in the evenings and have been trying to alleviate that with hot tea!  Might have to eat a bit more protein with dinner.
This week has also been a bit stressful because my aunt had to go into the hospital.  She was on new pain meds for her leg pain and that led to nausea and throwing up which led to dehydration.  They sent her to the ER on Tuesday and I met her there and spent the next six hours there as the ER tried to come up with what was wrong.  I kept telling them its a combo of the new pain meds and a vascular problem, but doctors do NOT like being told anything.  They did a bunch of tests and decided she might have gall stones and admitted her.  Three tests later they decided she did not have gall stones but had a bladder infection.  I kept saying please get her vascular surgeon to look at her leg.  I even called the surgeons office but they told me she would have to discharge from the hospital and then go to an outpatient clinic to run tests and then see the surgeon in his office.  What?!!  I'm beginning to thing the whole medical community is being run by insurance companies that don't know what the heck they are doing.  Today she is getting discharged back to her assisted living.  I doubt if I will get her to go to an outpatient clinic next week like they want, but you never know.  We will play it by ear.
Anyway, I am happy that with the stress I still didn't eat the wrong stuff and still fit some exercise in.  The key is to make this way of eating such a way of life that you don't even think of eating anything not on the program.

  2. Yay, that's fantastic! What you're doing seems to be working. :) I agree with you about the medical community; they are controlled by the insurance companies, which is SOOOO WRONG! I'm sorry you and your aunt are having to go through this.

  3. First Yeah for the 2lbs gone. Great job! I think the no snacks thing is helping you, but if you get real hungry between meals - do have a healthy snack. That will keep you from over eating. More protein and veggies at dinner might help too.
I hate hospitals and doctors. None of them care enough to know what the hell they are doing. I hope your aunt feels better.
    Have a great day :-)

  4. Yay for you Beth. Great job moving that scale down! Sorry to hear about your aunt. Don't even get me started about insurance companies. I would like to start a revolution in this country to take back our health care. The power of the insurance company and their greed, is starting to dictate the course of a patients care. Okay, I said don't get me started! Just trying to catch up a bit. Take care and as always, sending you love and hugs!

  5. I am excited for you to see a drop on the scale! Woo hoo Beth!
I am so sorry about your Aunt:( It doesn't make sense does it? I know with my sister part of the problem was catheter changes. Medicare(caid) would only pay for 1 change per month, my Mom had changed it about every 2 weeks. It was a process of getting the insurance/needs in check. Crazy.
Now...onward and downward...you have broken the plateau and we all know your scale really does work:)

  7. Whoo Hoo on the weight loss!!!! I am sorry to hear about the run around you are getting with your Aunts care. I agree our health care shouldn't be dictated by our insurance companies, and those dr.s who are not listening to you need a good wake up call. Have a nice Friday :)

  8. Great job on the 2 lbs. despite the stressful week. My mom was sick last summer and I don't think they ever did 100% figure out what was wrong with her.

  9. That is a great loss, Beth! WOOHOO! Ahhh, to see 166 lbs. again. It's a long lost friend that hasn't made an appearance in over 5 years. Can't wait :) I'm really sorry to hear about your aunt. It is very frustrating, I'm sure. My sister-in-law is a nurse and gripes about the same things all the time, and no, the doctors do not like being told anything. Well, most don't. I do hope she agrees to go to the outpatient clinic....fingers crossed!
