Tuesday 8/30 - little depressed

The hurricane came and went here this weekend.  After all the media hype, it was really not much more than a bad rainstorm in my area.  Like I predicted we lost our electricity.  The power company sucks around here and it doesn't take much for us to lose it.  Luckily though it was only out for for about nine hours.  It took another four hours after that to get our internet and tv back on.  Yeah Comcast!    We did lose a big branch from one of our trees and had a ton of little dead branches that shook out on to the gound and stuff like that.   Everything is pretty much cleaned up and back to normal now.

Yesterday I had such a sad day.  Had to take son number three over to his college and drop him off.  The college is only about an hour away but he is going to live on campus.  The thing is Nick is such a homebody and even though he chose this college over another one that is closer to us, he was miserable all day.  I wish he had picked the college he could commute to.  One problem is he had requested an alcohol free floor at the dorms, but the college said they had SO many requests for that floor that they couldn't accommodate everyone.  What?!  New freshman are actually being responsible enough to request a non-partying atmosphere and instead of the college thinking, "this is great, lets set up more non-alcohol floors and maybe a whole building" they say "oh sorry, we only have a few of those spots open for studious people so everyone else will just have to make do with the party people".    Not only that, they didn't have enough rooms in general so he he got "tripled".  That's when they put three people together in a two person room until something else opens up.   His roommates seemed friendly enough as they lined up their ten shotglasses on their dressers,  but they just couldn't be more the opposite of Nick in every way.  So anyway Nick was pretty miserable yesterday and that made me miserable.  What a long, sad drive home I had.

The good thing is that even though it was a hard emotional day, I didn't go off the BFC!. Yeah me! The bad news is, I've been weighing myself everyday this week and haven't seen any loss in weight all week.  Tomorrow is my official weigh-in but I doubt that there will be anything different tomorrow.   This is getting a little depressing. and I'm just not sure what else I can do to get this weight moving. How long does it take to get over a stall?  I've only lost 1 lb in basically a month!  Blah!   Don't worry though, I'm not going to quit.  I'm definitely going to keep with what I've been doing because, you know, what else can I do?     So, sorry to be so depressing today.   I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow.  On looking at the bright side, everyone in my house (expect my college graduate) went back to school today.  That gives me a little more time to myself! Yeah!  Maybe I'll go try that lemon coconut bread that Rosie posted.   I that that was a great idea! I love lemons!   Thanks for reading and I promise I'll try to be more positive on my next post.

  1. You have every right to be sad! It is really hard taking your kids off to school and not knowing if it is the right place for them. We took my oldest daughter to a local college (about 15 minutes from Spokane, but 45 minute drive to our house) anyway, her room mate is there already and has an 8x10 of her Dad right next to her bed. A little creepy!!! And she was really creepy! She then went a little further away to super party school USA and joined a sorority. I still owe 8000 on her drunken quarter. On the other hand my 23 year old son went to 8, yes 8, I repeat 8, different schools to play football and he left every one of them!! (he would try either spring or summer) He is now 23 and home working with my older son. The long and short of this story....you have done what you can to make him the wonderful young man that he is. He will make positive choices and you will be very proud of him! I pray that he meets a great friend and loves his school!
Refer back to the song I sent:)
The weight gets really frustrating. I bet if you read back through a lot of our journey's you would see that we were stuck. I don't think I have lost more than like 3 lbs in a couple of months. I do notice that things are continuing to firm up a little.
We aren't going to let you disappear!!! Now is the time for you:)
I'm glad the hurricane turned out OK for you. I imagine they certainly never knew what hit them in Vermont!!!
I hope and pray more young people go the way of the non drinking dorms. I still have to wrap my head around the floors being co ed!

  2. Hi Beth, from the other slow loser. I, however can account for some bad food weekends that may account for that. At least you are not gaining. I hope that your son starts to feel better. I always say, it's not really the school, but whether they connect with a group of people that makes college successful for them. My middle son wanted and tried to transfer several times his first and second years, but then met a group of good friends that really made the difference for him. I have to say my boys, although all good students, and great guys, do like their beer. They each have a few friends however, that dont drink, and this is not problem at all for them to hang out together. They all respect everyone's wishes. And they are all very good friends. So hopefully that will be the case for your son too.

  3. HI Beth, I am sorry that your son was so sad and in turn made you sad. That's funny that he wants to be good and it seems like they won't let him. I am sure he will be fine so don't worry and try to enjoy your free time.
Why don't you start posting what you eat every day and we can chime in and help. Maybe you are eating something that is throwing you off.
    Have a great day :-)

  4. Hi Beth! I'm glad the hurricane didn't get you guys too bad. I was worried about my folks' house in North Carolina, but they're inland so it wasn't too bad over there.

I'm sorry you're on a plateau. Those are the WORST! I'm sure you'll see another drop soon. Some things that seem to have worked for us: getting extra fiber, drinking LOTS of water and not eating carbs after lunch.

    Good luck!

  5. I'm sorry that you are having a hard time, but please don't feel like you owe us a positive post, we are here to support you in whatever mood you are in.

I'm also glad to hear that you and your fam are safe :)

  6. Glad to hear you didn't have any big problems from the storm! So sad for your son. If things are bad he should request a move - I'm sure that someone can accomodate him! I'm with Rosalie - bump up your water and fiber. Sometimes I even go over on carbs if I have to, just to get enough fiber. not often, but I feel it's more important to get the fiber. Try out the lemon bread - sometimes we need a change, too!
