Hello everyone! Thanks for all your kind words after my last post.  You guys are just awesome and made me feel so much better.
Well, diet wise I was doing so much better before all this hospital, and funeral stuff happened.  Truth time:  I didn't actually cheat but I didn't stick to my "no snacks" for the last two weeks and I definitely did not stick to my exercise plan for the last two weeks.  Also, the 85% chocolate came back into the picture.  On top of that,  I indulged in six Michelob Ultras in one week!  Ugh!  I weighed myself yesterday and I was still at 164lbs, but of course no loss.  It was a pretty stressful week so I'm not going to beat myself up too bad.  I also came down with a cold that's going around the house and have been feeling very sluggish over here myself.  My dog that had his face swell up got antibiotics that seemed to work, but, the day after my Aunt's funeral my dog got really bad. He wouldn't eat, wouldn't move much and was barely drinking.  I started thinking that this was it and was trying to prepare everyone and myself.  I sure didn't want to lose my dog right after my Aunt.  I told my boys that we would give him one more day to see if he would come around, but that it didn't look too good.   Do you know that the very next day I got him to eat some sliced hot dog, and then later that day he ate his pills, and then ate some actual dog food!  The day after that he was even a little better. And then by yesterday he was almost back to his old self again.(his "I have heart trouble" self).  Today was so nice outside that I took him out for a nice walk around the yard, and afterwards he barked for his dinner!   So I got a much needed reprieve, thank goodness!

- With all my depressing news lately I thought I'd share a couple pieces of good news. First, my oldest son (that graduated in May last year) finally found a job!  It took him 6 months and a billion resumes but he finally got a job that he really wanted. He started this past Monday at a Financial Publishing Firm down in Baltimore as their designer/web developer.  He eventually wants to live in or near the city, but right now it's a 45 minute commute for him each day.  I don't know about living in the city, for me, I like to visit the city and then head home to the country to live,  but what do I know... I'm old.  I'm very happy for him and his mood has improved 110%!  I'm also happy for me too because now he is up and out of the house early every day!!

Pip singing "House of the Rising Sun"
-My other piece of good news is that my very good friend Maureen that lives down in Atlanta, Georgia has a nephew that auditioned for that TV show called "The Voice".  I've heard about the show but had never seen it.  The first part of the show is called "Blind Auditions" and the singers get invited to come on and try out for four judges that have their backs to the singer.  As they listen to the singer sing, they decide if they feel he is someone they could work with to become the winner.  If one of the judges turns around while the singer is singing he gets to move on to the next part of the show.  If more then one judge turns around the singer gets to pick which judge he wants to mentor him.  When my friend's nephew sang ALL FOUR judges turned around!!  It was so exciting!  His name is Philip Arnold but he is going by the name Pip.  If you've watched the show, he is the one wearing the cute little bow tie.  I'm not sure how the rest of the show works, but I'm so excited for him! Oh, and he picked Adam Levine as his mentor.

So today I got the Kettle bells back out and did a small workout.  Tomorrow I'm going back to my three meals and NO snacks and see if I can get back in the good spot I was in just a couple of weeks ago.  I'm my Aunt's executor also and I am determined to not let the added stress de-rail me.  Summer is coming up and I want to feel and look good this summer!!

  1. Oh my goodness, so much going on! I'm so glad your dog is getting better, and that your son found a job he really wanted. That's two bits of good news that you needed right now. How exciting that your friend's nephew is on The Voice and got all four judges to turn around! I'm definitely going to make sure to watch the show now. Thanks for letting us know about it. :)

  2. HI Beth, you had a lot of stuff huh? I'm glad your dog is better and happy for your son too.
I do watch the Voice and remember him. He was good. This week will be better for you - I just know it. :-)

  3. Beth, I am glad some good news is coming your way after all of the stress that has been going on in your life. Glad to hear that your dog is doing better. I lost 2 dogs all within a year of each other and it is so hard. Great news about your son and his job you have to be such a proud mother. I watched the voice the night Philip was on and he is really good and I love Adam Levine. The guy he mentored last year won. I hope this week is a little less stressful for you.

  4. Well Beth, I think you did pretty good, maintaining while having all that stress going on! I love that, actually! Glad your dog is doing better now, that your son got a job, and that things are looking up! I bet those kettle bell workouts are awesome!

  5. Good news is a happy thing! And your son getting a job, and one that he is excited for? Priceless!
I just started watching The Voice because it was on after something else I was watching. I love it! I don't remember Pip, but I will watch for him. I LOVE Adam Levine. I don't know much about "modern" music, but I love listening to fledgling singers get their big break and not based on how they look!
Good job on maintaining, that means when you get back on track you will see a loss again! Woot!
I am also glad your doggy is feeling better:) I would love one, but not the stress of loving one more thing that much!
    Blessings and hugs!

  6. Hi Beth. Sorry that things are so hectic for you. I for one can understand, as I feel the same way, but for different reasons. Glad your dog pulled through for you. That would have just been too much too handle with all you've been through. Animals are so resilient. Don't beat yourself up over your weight. I think you are doing great. I'm happy to hear about your son too. I have to say living in the city ( I have had both sons living in New York) is really exciting for young people. They get to meet others their age, and there is so much to see and do. I am a country person too,but I wish when I was younger and single I had lived in the city. Of course, I did live in Philadelphia when I was first married, but we were broke, so couldn't do much. Lastly, so exciting about your friends son. I watch that show on occasion, but didn't see that episode. I hope he goes far. Sending you love and hugs!
